Tesla Drops Nvidia, Hires Intel for Infotainment Tech

Electric carmaker Tesla is switching from Nvidia to Intel to supply the chips that power its big-screen infotainment systems, sources tell Bloomberg News.
They say the Intel chips will be used in Tesla’s new Model 3 sedan, which has just gone into production, and in new editions of the company’s Model S sedan and Model X crossover vehicle. Bloomberg indicates that Nvidia chips will continue to be used in Tesla’s Autopilot system, which can steer, accelerate and brake vehicles automatically under certain conditions.
It isn’t clear why Tesla is making the switch. None of the companies involved has commented on the report.
