Tesla Inc. says in a Canadian lawsuit that Ontario unfairly targeted the company when it phased out a rebate program for buyers of electric cars, Bloomberg News reports.

The province’s rebate plan was worth as much as C$14,000 ($10,600) before it was canceled last month. At the time, Ontario said buyers could still collect incentives on EVs already on dealer lots or ordered through third-party dealers and delivered by Sept. 10.

Tesla objects to those terms because it sells its EVs directly rather than through dealers. Its lawsuit, which was filed in Ontario Superior Court, asserts that the province’s policy excludes hundreds of Tesla customers who ordered cars direct from the factory and expected to be eligible for the rebate when their cars arrived.
