Honda Motor Co. is recalling 175,400 hybrids in Japan to remedy an engine control software problem that can make the cars accelerate spontaneously.

Honda says it is aware of 11 crashes but no injuries related to the programming glitch.

The recall covers hybrid versions of the company's 2014 Vezel small SUV and Fit minicar. Both models went on sale last year and are available only in Japan.
