Subaru is recalling 77,000 of its 2006-2014 model Tribeca SUVs in the U.S. to fix hood latches that can seize and allow the hood to blow open when the vehicle is moving.
The company plans to replace both the hood latch and secondary safety latch with an improved mechanism when it has enough parts available to do so. In the interim, dealers will inspect, clean and lubricate the latches and replace only those that can’t be made to work properly.
The Subaru recall comes less than two weeks after Nissan Motor Co. recalled 870,000 Altima sedans in the U.S. to repair a similar issue. The Subaru and Nissan mechanisms were supplied by different companies.
