California-based startup Dubuc Motors Inc. claims itsTomahawk electric supercar due next year will be able to zip from zero to 60 mph in as few as 2 seconds, making it one of the fastest cars in the world.

The $125,000 car’s all-wheel-drive system teams four electric motors to generate a combined 800 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque, according to the company. Dubuc says the Tomahawk will come with a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery and a range of 370 miles per charge.

Dubuc says the car will be able to achieve 60 mph in 2 seconds in race mode and 4 seconds in street mode. The car will sport a carbon-fiber body and chassis, scissor doors, four leather-covered racing seats, a 200-watt sound system and active safety features that include collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking.

Dubuc is collecting $5,000 refundable deposits for the Tomahawk, which it hopes to produce “in the thousands.” The company aims to finance its production launch with a continuing crowdfunding public offering.

The Tomahawk’s “universal” platform will be able to carry several other body types, Dubuc notes. It plans to target niche markets, where volumes aren’t high enough to attract major carmakers.
