Spain’s Acciona SA says its “100% EcoPowered” SUV is the first all-electric vehicle to finish the 5,600-mile Dakar Rally, which ended in Buenos Aires.

More than one-fourth of the entered vehicles dropped out of the grueling off-road race during the two-week trek through South America. This was Acciona's third attempt to conquer Dakar with its EV, which finished 57th in the car category—more than three days behind the winning Peugeot team.

Driven by Argentinian Ariel Jaton and German Tito Rolon, the EcoPowered features an electric motor that generates 340 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The motor is teamed with a 6-speed sequential gearbox and a four-wheel-drive traction system.

Six battery modules, which can be charged independently in one hour, provide a combined 150 kWh of energy. A roof-mounted, 100-watt solar panel helps power auxiliary systems.

Acciona is a 20-year-old Spanish energy company that focuses on the development and management of renewable energy.
