Volkswagen AG’s Czech Republic-based Skoda arm plans to launch its first electric vehicle early next decade.
The unspecified new model will be based on VW’s new Modular Electric Platform (MEB) that was unveiled earlier this year. Skoda chairman Bernhard Maier tells Autocar. The MEB architecture packages batteries underneath the floor, which the carmaker says will enable the use of larger, high-capacity battery packs.
Skoda also is said to be readying a plug-in hybrid version of its Superb large car. That vehicle is due to launch in 2019. Electric versions of Skoda’s Fabia and Octavia models also have been rumored.
