Volkswagen AG’s Skoda unit will publicly unveil its Vision RS concept car at next week’s Paris auto show.
The vehicle is expected to preview a plug-in hybrid version of Skoda’s upcoming Rapid hatchback. The conventionally powered Rapid is due early next year, with the RS plug-in model following sometime later.
Riding on VW’s MQB A0 platform, the Vision RS is longer, narrower and lower than the current Rapid Spaceback. The concept measures 171 inches from bumper to bumper.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and electric motor that produce a combined 242 hp. The car’s 13-kWh battery provides an estimated all-electric range of 43 miles on Europe’s previous NEDC cycle. Carbon dioxide emissions are expected to be 33 g/km.
Skoda says the Vision RS will include a host of carbon fiber parts, including wheel covers and the rear spoiler. The lightweight material also will be used in the door panels, seats and decorative trim.
