The city of Shanghai says it will expand its number of charging poles for electric vehicles tenfold to 210,000 units by the end of the decade.
The network will be sufficient to serve 260,000 “new-energy” vehicles, according to the Shanghai Transport Commission. There are about 55,400 such vehicles on the road in the city today—80% of which were sold in 2015, the Shanghai Daily reports.
Plans for the expanded charging network come as Shanghai is reducing local subsidies for EV and plug-in hybrid cars. Last week the city said it would cut incentives for such vehicles by as much as 50% to 30,000 yuan ($4,600) this year.
