Saab Owner Inks Huge EV Deal with Chinese Leasing Company

National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB says it has won a contract to supply electric vehicles and related services to Panda New Energy Co., a Chinese leasing firm. The deal is valued at 78 billion yuan ($12 billion).
NEVS, the Chinese-Japanese venture that acquired the assets of the former Saab Automobiles in 2012, will provide Panda with 150,000 all-electric versions of the aging 9-3 sedan. The body of the new EV will be built in Sweden, while finally assembly will be completed in China, according to NEVS.
In addition, NEVS and some unnamed associated companies will supply 100,000 other EV products and services to Panda.
Earlier this year, NEVS announced a partnership with Dongfeng Motor Corp. to jointly develop electric and plug-in hybrid cars in China.
