S. Africa Group Lowers Car Production Outlook

The National Assn. of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa has trimmed its forecast for the country's passenger car output 2% to 275,000 passenger vehicles compared with 312,300 in 2011.
But NAMSA raised its prediction for South Africa's 2012 light commercial vehicle production from its previous estimate in May by 4% to 250,000 units from 192,800 units last year. The group's outlook for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles is unchanged at 30,000 units.
As a result NAMSA has boosted its forecast for total motor vehicle output in South Africa this year 1% to 555,000 units compared with 532,500 units in 2011.
The group also hiked its 2013 forecast for motor vehicle production in the country by 20,000 units to 654,300 units. NAMSA cut its prediction for car output by 10,000 to 320,000 vehicles and increased its light commercial vehicle outlook by 30,000 units to 300,000 units. Its estimate for production of heavier commercial vehicles is unchanged at 34,300 units.
