Volkswagen AG’s supervisory board intends to choose executives to succeed Karlheinz Blessing, who heads human resources, and Francisco Garcia Sanz, who oversees the group’s purchasing operations, according to media reports.
The board, which will meet on Friday, is widely expected to announce that CEO Matthias Mueller will be supplanted by VW brand chief Herbert Diess.
Reports say Blessing will be displaced by Gunnar Kilian, currently general secretary of the carmaker’s powerful works council. Blessing has led VW’s sluggish efforts to invigorate its bureaucratic corporate culture.
It isn’t clear who the supervisory board plans to succeed Sanz. He was temporarily reassigned from his position as head of procurement in late 2015 to oversee the company’s steps to resolve its diesel emission cheating crisis.

Shifting Landscape of Technology Is a Never-Ending Education
Brent Donaldson, Senior Editor, Modern Machine Shop and Additive Manufacturing Magazine discusses how the shifting landscape of technology that all of Gardner’s writers and editors cover is a never-ending education. If we are truly doing our jobs, we will never feel like we’ve mastered them. As I continue writing and reporting for AM and MMS, it’s easy to imagine how these technologies’ interdependency will continue to grow. It also seems clear that this kind of reporting — the kind that requires editors to experience and share new manufacturing technologies and strategies — is the kind of reporting that only Gardner can produce with any depth. I’m grateful to be part of it.
