Harald Kroeger, who heads electric vehicle powertrain development at Daimler AG, has been hired by Robert Bosch GmbH, sources tell Reuters.
Kroeger is a former head of quality at Mercedes-Benz and sat on the board of EV maker Tesla Motors Inc. for two years. He also had responsibility for electronics and battery development for EVs and plug-in hybrids at Mercedes. He most recently was director of “E-Drive” powertrain development.
The reported move comes as Germany’s auto industry shifts its focus from diesel to electric power for future vehicles. Reuters notes that Bosch supplied the electric powertrain and other components for Google Inc.’s podlike prototype autonomous car.
Bosch predicts the global market for sensors and video devices used to create such driver aids as adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning systems will reach €1 billion ($1.1 billion) this year.
