Audi AG has selected its plant in Brussels to make the Q6 e-tron electric crossover due in early 2018, according to Belgian newspaper De Morgen.

The car was unveiled in concept form at the Frankfurt auto show in September. Audi plans to position the EV as a competitor to Tesla Motors Inc.’s just-launched Model X electric crossover. The Q6 electric targets a driving range of 500 km (310 miles) per charge.

In August Audi said it had partnered with LG Chem and Samsung SDI to develop new battery cell technology for the Q6 e-tron.

Audi’s factory in Brussels currently makes the subcompact A1 car. The Q6 EV will ride on Volkswagen AG’s second-generation modular longitude matrix (MLB 2) platform.
