Report: 60% of Cars to Be Connected to the Web by 2025

Three in five cars on the road in developed countries will be connected to the Internet by 2025, predicts the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
The association says such connectivity will improve traffic safety by enabling vehicle-to-vehicle communications, permitting cars to travel in closer proximity at higher speeds and rerouting traffic to avoid hazardous weather or congested roadways. Such innovations will almost eliminate human error from driving, according to the group.
IEEE notes the spread of Internet-enabled vehicles will promote adoption of autonomous vehicles. Last year the association predicted that 75% of cars on the road would have self-driving capability by 2040. The group also predicts that highway lanes dedicated to autonomous vehicles will begin to appear within the next five years.
