Fabien Gache, who heads the CGT Renault union, says it’s “incomprehensible” that jailed Carlos Ghosn would continue as the French carmaker’s chairman and CEO.
Earlier this week, Ghosn’s plea to be released on bail from a Tokyo jail was denied, making it likely that he will continue to be detained for months ahead of a trial over charges by Nissan Motor Co. of financial wrongdoing.
Renault, citing the presumption of innocence, has continued to retain Ghosn in both posts pending details about the charges against him. Yesterday the French government, which owns 15% of the company, has called for the board to replace the executive.
Gache is no friend of Ghosn. He claims that 80% of workers in Renault’s home plants are temporary employees with “precarious” job futures.
