Renault SA says it will invest more than €1 billion ($1.2 billion) to expand production capacity for electric vehicles at four factories in France.

The company did not provide details about volume or timing for the projects, which will:

  • Add a second production line in Douai for a new EV platform that will be shared with Renault’s Nissan and perhaps Mitsubishi Motors alliance partners
  • Double capacity at Flins to make Zoe urban minicars
  • Retool Maubeuge to make next-generation Kangoo vans, including the Kangoo Z.E. electric model
  • Triple capacity at Cleon to make electric propulsion motors and launch a next-generation motor design in 2021

By 2022 Renault expects to offer eight all-electric models and 12 plug-in hybrid vehicles.
