Renault SA tells Reuters the carmaker's new India-made Kwid small crossover vehicle would be a "good match" for the Iranian market, now that economic sanctions against the country are being lifted.
Gerard Detourbet, the Renault-Nissan alliance vice president who helped develop the Kwid's low-cost design, says local partners in Iran have already expressed interest in the car. Renault debuted the model in India in May.
The Kwid rides on Renault's CMF-A minicar platform. Reuters notes the company aims to eventually sell more than 1 million vehicles per year that share the Kwid's architecture. Detourbet says a decision on an Iranian partner is a few months away.
