Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Karma Automotive LLC says its upcoming Revero plug-in hybrid car will include the first application in the U.S. of a solar roof panel that can “power the vehicle.”

Karma unveiled the renamed Revero, which maintains the sleek design of the 10-year-old Fisker Karma sports sedan, this week. The Fisker model also had photovoltaic solar cells on its roof, but the arrary generated only a small amount of power. The company didn't indicate the difference between the two systems.

Karma, which was formed in 2014 when China’s Wanxiang Group purchased the assets of bankrupt Fisker Automotive and Technology Group LLC, previously said the Revero will have a new hybrid drivetrain that includes an electric power and control system supplied by BMW. Other updates include a redesigned infotainment system and fast-charging capability.

The Revero is due next month. Pricing is expected to start at about $120,000.
