A German search warrant claims Daimler AG sold more than 1 million diesels in Europe and the U.S. that failed to meet pollution standards, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports.
The warrant was issued by a Stuttgart court and used in late May to search Daimler facilities. Investigators were looking for evidence relating to allegations of false advertising and cheating on emission laws.
The warrant cites various Mercedes-Benz cars sold between 2008 and 2016. The suspected vehicles are equipped with 1.8- or 2.1-liter 4-cylinder diesels (code-named OM651) or 3.0-liter V-6 engines (code-named OM642), according to the newspaper.
Daimler dismisses the report as “speculation” but says it is fully cooperating with prosecutors in the continuing probe, Reuters reports.
