Police have raided Toyota Motor Corp.'s headquarters in Tokyo following the arrest last week of the company's new communications chief on suspicion of illegally importing prescription painkillers, the Asahi Shimbun reports.
Police arrested Julie Hamp, who was named global head of external communications two months ago, on June 18 after discovering dozens of pills of oxycodone, a narcotic painkiller, in a jewelry box she had sent to herself from the U.S. to Japan.
Hamp, 55, reportedly told police she uses the drug to treat knee pain. Japanese law prohibits such drugs from being shipped into the country. They can be brought in personally by their intended user, but only after the user obtains permission from the government's health ministry.
