Honda Motor Co. is developing a plug-in hybrid version of the Pilot crossover, Automotive News reports.
The newspaper cites spy photographs of a lightly camouflaged Pilot being road tested. The photos show what appears to be a flap on the driver-side front fender, which is where charging ports typically are located on plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The plug-in variant could be introduced as early as next year as part of a mid-cycle freshening for the current Pilot. AN says the update will include the latest front-end styling cues from the Accord and Odyssey minivan.
Honda launched a plug-in variant of the Clarity midsize sedan late last year. The carmaker also offers a traditional hybrid system on the midsize Accord sedan after dropping a plug-in variant two years ago. The next-generation Insight hybrid sedan is due later this year.
