BMW AG will unveil the production version of a convertible variant of its i8 plug-in hybrid sports car at the Los Angeles auto show in November.
Launching next spring, the roadster will closely resemble the i8 Concept Spyder (pictured) BMW showed in 2012, Automotive News reports. The vehicle will be based on an updated version of the i8 hybrid coupe.
The new model is expected to be fitted with a larger battery that more than doubles the car’s current 15-mile electric driving range, according to other media reports. Combined output of the car’s 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine and electric motor also will be increased beyond the outgoing model’s 420 hp.
