Italian design house Pininfarina SpA aims to launch a line of high-end electric vehicles under its own brand.

Speaking at this month’s Geneva auto show, Chairman Paulo Pininfarina says he plans to make his father and grandfather’s (Sergio and Battista) dreams of creating a “car company” come true, Motor1 reports. He didn’t provide a timeline or any other details about the plan.

Motor1 speculates that Pininfarina’s EV brand could be announced during next month’s Formula E race. Earlier this year India’s Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., which purchased Pininfarina in 2015, announced that the design house will help develop its next-generation Formula E race car. Last year Mahindra officials hinted at launching a separate Pininfarina EV brand.

Pininfarina also is developing a modular electric car platform for Chinese electric car startup Hybrid Kinetic Group (HKG) Ltd. The partners showed their latest concept, the stylish HK GT coupe (pictured), in Geneva. As with three previous concept models, the HK GT features HKG’s extended-range hybrid system that teams a micro-turbine-powered generator and battery with a pair of electric motors.

Pininfarina also is moving forward with plans to produce the H2 Speed fuel cell-powered hypercar concept it unveiled at the 2016 Geneva show. That vehicle is powered by a fuel system developed by Switzerland’s GreenGT SAS.

One of the things that rarely gets the amount of attention that it should in a typical “car review” is the fact that for a considerable amount of time drivers are not “getting on the throttle” because for a considerable number of drivers, they’re “dwelling on the binders,” a.k.a., sitting with their foot depressed on the brakes, perhaps lifting every now and then in order to nudge forward in traffic.
