Government officials in the Philippines are preparing to investigate complaints that Mitsubishi Motors Corp.’s Montero Sport SUVs can suddenly accelerate.
The probe will cover reports of problems occurring between 2010 and 2015, according to the government. Bloomberg News says the action was prompted by a congressman after he was contacted by two drivers who reported incidents within the past two months. It isn't clear why the issue was not investigated earlier.
MMC declares there are no problems with the SUV, which is sold as the Pajero Sport or Challenger in some regions. The company adds it has received no reports from any other markets about sudden acceleration.
