Efforts to ratify the U.S. trade deal with Canada and Mexico are on a “path to yes” in the U.S. House of Representatives, says House Speak Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
She tells reporters she is optimistic about finalizing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement soon, Reuters reports.

A pleased Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Tex.), the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee, agrees. “They’re getting close on this,” he tells reporters, adding that an “awful lot of progress” is being made.
Brady is hopeful that the committee, which has responsibility for trade agreements, can present an approved pact to President Donald Trump by year-end. Republicans are eager to finalize the accord by year-end, ahead of the distractions of next year’s elections.
The pact was signed by the three countries a year ago but has been ratified only by Mexico to date. Democrats want the USMCA’s language strengthened to ensure adequate enforcement of provisions about wages and climate concerns. Pelosi is optimistic that a successful accord will become a template for future trade agreements.
