Opel to Cut 350-400 Jobs in Austria

PSA Group’s Opel unit will eliminate as many as one-third of the jobs at its powertrain plant outside Vienna, Austria, Reuters reports.
The facility currently employs 1,200 people who make 4-cylinder engines and 5- and 6-speed transmissions. The head of the facility’s works council says workers have been told that 350-400 jobs will be eliminated.
It isn’t clear when the cuts will begin. PSA has been shifting Opel’s product lineup to its own platforms and consolidating operations since it acquired the company from General Motors Co. in 2017.
