Nissan Motor Co. is developing a modular platform that can support a range of all-electric and piston-powered vehicles.
Future EVs built on the architecture could include a sports car and crossover vehicle, senior vice president Shiro Nakamura tells Auto Express. The carmaker’s only current electric model is the Leaf hatchback.
The new platform is in the early stages of development and isn’t expected to yield a production vehicle for about five years, Nakamura says. Still to be decided is where the EV battery pack will be located in the architecture.
Nissan showed what its electric crossover vehicle might look like with last year’s Gripz concept vehicle. The company unveiled the Esflow all-electric concept sports car in 2011.
