A balky hybrid powertrain and possible cracked transmission housings have prompted Nissan Motor Co. to recall about 15,000 of its 2014 model Infiniti Q50 and Q70 hybrid sedans worldwide.
About 8,000 of the cars are in Japan, and 6,000 are in the U.S.
Nissan says 14,400 of the cars have electric propulsion motors that could suddenly stop when the vehicle is operating in all-electric mode. The company blames a communication error between the motor inverter and transmission control module. Dealers will reprogram the inverter's control software.
A second campaign will check for cracked transmission housings in 1,600 cars, some of which also are part of the inverter software recall.
