Nissan Motor Co. and partner Dongfeng Motor Group Co. may build Leaf electric sedans at their joint venture plant in Guangdong, China, according to Bloomberg News.

The news service cites a statement on a government Web site that says the companies will begin producing Leafs at a rate of 10,000 per year. Annual output is expected to jump to 50,000 units by 2015.

Bloomberg notes that Guangdong province intends to boost its annual capacity to build alternative-energy vehicles to more than 200,000 units by 2015.
