Nissan Motor Co. announced several electric vehicle-related initiatives for Europe at its annual future tech event this week in Oslo, Norway.

First, the company its expanding its European network of fast-charging stations by 20% to 5,600 units over the next 18 months.

In addition, Nissan will launch 7-kW and 22-kW home/office charging units next year that can fully recharge an EV battery in 5.5 hours and two hours, respectively. This compares with as long as 18 hours for current devices.

The carmaker also is testing a bi-directional charging system in Denmark that would allow users to sell excess energy back to the grid. Nissan estimates such systems could generate as much as €400 ($530) per year for EV owners.

Nissan sells the Leaf electric sedan and e-NV200 electric van in Europe. Both models have been redesigned for 2018 to extend their ranges on the European driving cycle to 235 miles and 174 miles, respectively.
