The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into complaints about the frontal airbags in Odyssey minivans deploying without a crash.
The action covers about 320,000 vehicles produced during the 2003 and 2004 model years.
NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation notes that the flaw may be the same one found last year in 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty SUVs. That probe discovered that airbags were being inadvertently triggered by the failure of an integrated circuit within the airbag control module.
That investigation spawned a trio of recalls involving some 1.65 million Dodge Viper sports cars, Jeep Liberty SUVs and Toyota-built Corolla/Matrix and Pontiac Vibe vehicles.
The component's supplier, TRW Automotive, told NHTSA at the time that the same circuit board was used in 2003-2005 Odyssey minivans.
