Carmakers have sold nearly 1.02 million electric and hybrid vehicles in China to date, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Security.
The agency tells the government’s official Xinhua News Agency that EVs accounted for 825,000 of the total. Electric-gasoline hybrids contributed 193,000 units.
Last year the ministry distributed 76,000 special-privilege “green” license plates for new-energy vehicles in five pilot cities. The program is scheduled to be expanded nationwide by the first half of 2018.
