The owner of a Ford F-150 pickup truck is attempting to organize a class-action lawsuit against Ford Motor Co. over alleged defects of the company's MyFord Touch infotainment system.
A complaint filed in a California District Court alleges that the company promoted the technology but knew it had severe shortcomings, including some that cannot be repaired.
The complaint by the Center for Defensive Driving in Torrance, Calif., claims the system, which Ford developed with Microsoft Corp., freezes, spontaneously shuts down and resets, doesn't recognize voice commands and cannot reliably pair with cell phones and music players.
The lawsuit says the inability of MyFord Touch to reliably control such functions as navigation, backup camera and defroster constitutes a safety hazard.
The complaint asks the judge to levy unspecified damages against Ford and order the company to recall or replace all MyFord Touch systems since the technology was introduced in 2010. The complaint also asks for a jury trial.
