Tesla Motors Inc. CEO Elon Musk says he hopes this week to announce “part two” of a “top secret master plan” for the electric-car company.

Musk’s tweet on Sunday offers no details. Part one of the plan apparently was Musk’s blog post a decade ago that outlined his intent to launch the Tesla electric car company. He is renowned for generating media attention with cryptic references to impending company announcements.

The latest teaser comment comes as Tesla confronts the launch of an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into a fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S electric sedan that had been operating in Autopilot mode. The feature enables partial self-driving capabilities, although Tesla has cautioned its customers that they must remain in control of the vehicle.

The company also is battling hostility among many investors about Musk’s hope of merging Tesla with solar panel market SolarCity Corp. He heads both companies.

Musk has said he believes the products made by the two companies would appeal to the same group of environmentally sensitive customers. Skeptical investors see plenty of financial risk, since both companies are losing money, and little or no synergies.
