Mitsubishi Motors Corp. hopes to boost demand in the U.S. for its slow-selling i-MiEV subcompact electric sedan with a 20% price cut on the 2014 model.

MMC says next year's car will have a base price of $23,800, about $6,100 less than the 2013 edition. The company also intends to add more standard features, including aluminum wheels, heated seats and rear-door audio speakers.

The company has sold slightly more than 1,000 i-MiEVs in the U.S. so far this year, including only a dozen in November, according to Automotive News.

Analysts say already meager demand for the iMiEV evaporated early this year when rival makers of EVs and plug-in hybrids began cutting prices.
