Meritor Inc. has appointed Ivor Evans as its chairman, CEO and president, effective immediately.

Evans has been a member of Meritor's board of directors for eight years and executive chairman since early May. At that time he also became interim CEO and president when Chip McClure abruptly stepped down from those jobs.

Evans worked at General Motors for 21 years before becoming a senior executive at Emerson Electric. From 1998 to 2004, he was president and COO of Union Pacific Railroad.
