Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit has filed trademark applications for several vehicle names starting with an EQ prefix that will form the basis of an MEQ sub-brand for electric vehicles, AutoExpress reports.
The trademarked names range from EQA to EQX, according to the U.K.-based enthusiast magazine. The report follows several others that indicated Mercedes is planning an unnamed sub-brand for high-end EVs that will compete against Tesla and BMW’s “i” brand.
The rollout will start in about two years with a sedan called the EQS, according to AutoExpress. The magazine, which doesn’t cite its sources, says the car will use a new EV-specific platform that’s expected to be called the EVA.
Mercedes has said it is developing several new EVs but hasn’t revealed any details about them. Previous reports indicated the carmaker will unveil a concept EV at next month’s Paris auto show.
