Daimler AG’s Mercedes-AMG unit says it eventually will offer plug-in hybrid cars across its lineup.

The trend will start next year with a limited-edition F1-based hybrid hypercar and a production version of this year’s plug-in hybrid AMG GT concept sedan (pictured), Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, tells Automotive News.

The vehicles will be marketed under the EQ Power+ sub-brand AMG introduced with the GT concept at last month’s Geneva auto show. Moers says the production version of the GT will include both a conventional powertrain and a plug-in hybrid version, Moers says.

AMG’s future also will include more full electric vehicles. “It is going to happen," Moers says, without poviding specifics. He points to changing environmental regulations and consumer demand as market drivers for EVs and hybrids. AMG sold a limited number of SLS AMG Electric Drive vehicles in 2013, AN notes.
