Mazda Motor Corp.'s redesigned 2016 MX-5 Miata sports car has earned a U.S. combined fuel economy rating of 30 mpg, up from 24 mpg for the current model.
The car, which will go on sale this summer, is the company's fourth to be fully engineering with Mazda's Skyactiv approach to optimizing vehicle and powertrain design.
The new Miata will weigh about 150 lbs less than the current model. It also will be powered by the company's more efficient Skyactiv-G 2.0 liter engine (rated in the U.S. at 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque), which will replace the current 2.0-liter powerplant (167 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque).
