Chrysler Group LLC CEO Sergio Marchionne tells reporters that the Canadian Auto Workers union must be more realistic about what it can expect from a new labor contract.
Marchionne says all parties need to come to a "stark realization" of the current situation. He didn't specify the conditions he refers to. But Marchionne has said previously that the new agreement must address Canadian labor costs, which he says are the highest in the world.
Chrysler and the union say they are still far away from a pact. The CAW's current agreements with Chrysler, Ford and General Motors expire on Monday.
The union says it submitted a revised proposal to the Detroit carmakers this week that offers concessions on wages and pensions for new hires. The CAW continues to negotiate with all three companies rather than choose one to go first and set a blueprint for the others.
