Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne opines that Samsung Electronics Co. could be a “potential strategic partner.”
He tells Bloomberg Television that FCA already has a “very good” relationship with the South Korean giant, which reportedly is in talks about acquiring FCA’s Magneti Marelli parts business. Marchionne did not confirm the negotiations, which sources told Bloomberg earlier this month are in advanced stages.
The two companies have collaborated on projects since 2009. Marchionne and Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae Yong both are on the board of Exor SpA, FCA’s controlling shareholder.
Marchionne indicates FCA doesn’t want to simply sell Magneti Marelli. Instead, the carmaker aims to create a partnership with the new owner to “provide a significant platform for technology development.”
