Manufacturing activity in China slowed in July to its lowest pace in 15 months, according to the Caixin Flash China General Manufacturing PMI compiled by London-based Markit Economics Ltd.

The index, formerly sponsored by banking giant HSBC, is now presented by the Chinese financial publication Caixin. The July index dropped to 48.2 from 49.4 in June. Any number below 50 indicates contraction.

The index indicates decreases in output, new orders, new export orders and employment. A sub-index that tracks manufacturing output dropped to a 16-month low of 47.3 from 49.7 in June.
