Toyota Motor Corp.’s plant in in Cambridge, Ont., will add production of gasoline and hybrid variants of the Lexus NX crossover vehicle (pictured) in 2022 for sale in North America.
Toyota currently builds the compact crossover in Japan. The Cambridge facility, which builds the Lexus RX and Toyota RAV4 SUV/crossover models, will take over production of the NX for North America.
Last year, Toyota said it was investing C$1.4 billion ($1.1 billion) to upgrade the Cambridge facility and another one in nearby Woodstock, Ont. The carmaker had intended to produce hybrid-powered RAV4s in Cambridge. But last month said it was shifting that vehicle to its plant in Georgetown, Ky.
