Sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia dropped 17% in July to 109,400 units, reports the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses.
But deliveries by market leader Lada rose 4% to 21,800 vehicles last month, thanks in part to new models. It was only the third time the company reported a monthly gain since February 2013.
Industrywide sales in January-July shrank 14% to 781,600 vehicles. AEB concedes the Russian market is “still nowhere near the shape needed” to match last year’s results, when sales plunged 36% to 1.60 million units.
