Officials from labor unions across Europe are insisting that PSA Peugeot Citroen and General Motors Co. immediately disclose any plans to shutter factories or eliminate jobs as part of their newly formed alliance, Reuters reports.
The news service cites a statement issued by the EMB European trade union group after a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday. Reuters says labor officials want GM and PSA to reveal planned production volume and employment levels at all their plants in Europe.
The companies are widely believed to be planning plant closings and job cuts. But they have repeatedly said their respective restructuring plans are not related to the alliance they announced in February. They say the partnership is focused on shared purchasing and product development.
