South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission has fined Toyota Motor Corp. 817 million won ($729,000) for misrepresenting the safety of its RAV4 crossover vehicles, The Nikkei reports.

The targeted ads cite the RAV4’s top safety rating by the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. But models sold in Korea lack the structural features that warranted the U.S. assessment.

The commission acknowledges that a Toyota disclaimer says the specs of actual vehicles may differ. But it ruled that the fine-print proviso isn’t clear or immediately understandable to consumers.
