Kia Motors Corp. is calling back 322,900 cars and minivans in the U.S. to fix suspension, seatbelt and hood latch defects.
The largest campaign involves 219,800 Kia Sedona minivans made between 2005 and 2014. Dealers will lubricate or replace the secondary hood latch, which may corrode, bind and fail to function. The mechanism is intended to prevent the hood from blowing open if the primary latch isn’t secured.
A second Kia callback will inspect and/or replace front suspension lower control arms in 97,900 Sedonas made in 2006-2012 and sold or registered in America’s 27 “salt belt” states and the District of Columbia. Some of those models were recalled for the same problem in 2013. If the control arm breaks, the vehicle would become very difficult to steer.
Kia’s third recall will inspect and perhaps replace front seatbelt assemblies in 5,200 Fortes small sedans. The devices may have loose screws that could allow a retractor retaining plate to come loose and injure the belted passenger.
