Next month Kia Motors Corp. plans to begin recalling 86,900 of its 2014 model Forte sedans in the U.S. to replace an engine cooling fan resistor that could overheat, melt and cause a fire.
Some cars also will get a new multi-fuse unit, according to Kia. The company says vehicles powered by a 1.8-liter engine will have the engine control unit software updated.
Kia is aware of nine owner complaints, including two fires. But it tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration it has been unable to clearly identify the cause of the overheating problem.
