The state of Kentucky has sued Volkswagen AG for willfully violating the state’s consumer protection laws by touting “clean” diesels that in fact had been rigged to cheat emission standards.
Kentucky joins several other states—including New Jersey, New Mexico, Texas and West Virginia—that have filed similar false advertising complaints against the carmaker.
Kentucky's lawsuit seeks unspecified civil penalties and an injunction barring VW from cheating on emission tests in the future.
